June 9, 2015 (EIRNS)—After President Obama’s over-the-top bellicose performance at the just-concluded G-7 summit in Germany, it is becoming more and more obvious that the key to any reliable war-avoidance program, to stop the march towards a potential thermonuclear war of annihilation, is the removal from office of both President Obama and German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Both Obama and Merkel are coming under growing attack for their war provocations, aimed principally against Russia and Russian President Vladimir Putin, but until they are actually removed from office, by constitutional means, the world will remain in the cross-hairs of thermonuclear armageddon.
As President Obama was using the final moments of the G-7 summit to deliver his latest personal diatribe against Putin, the Russian Ministry of Defense was demanding formal clarification of whether the Obama Administration is planning to leave the 1987 Intermediate Range Nuclear Force Treaty (INF)–in order to dispatch intermediate-range missiles with nuclear warheads to Europe. The Obama Administration has accused Russia of violating the INF Treaty, but has so far failed to provide any details of the alleged violations, other than claims that Russia tested a cruise missile a year ago. The Obama Administration has, however, admitted that the U.S. is considering its own options of leaving the INF Treaty and deploying “counterforce” IRBMs to Europe, or even “countervailing strike capabilities,” involving the launching of pre-emptive nuclear attacks on targets inside Russia.
The Obama Administration is engaging in a series of additional provocative actions against Russia, from the BaltOps naval manuevers in the Baltic Sea, which continue through June 20, to the beginning of construction of a land-based AEGIS missile defense system in Rumania, on the Black Sea.
While defense experts are frantic over the escalating threats, few are willing to put the full picture together. The looming showdown with Russia is driven by desperation over the imminent blowout of the entire trans-Atlantic financial system, a blowout that could be triggered, at any moment, by a Greek default on its so-called debts to the Troika (IMF, European Union and European Central Bank). Last week’s agreement, that Greece would make its entire June payment to the IMF of 1.6 billion euro on the 30th of the month, merely kicked the can down the road for a few weeks more. It solved nothing. Today, Greece submitted yet another proposal for restructuring the debt, and it was instantaneously rejected by the EU bureaucracy.
Lyndon LaRouche warned on Tuesday that the efforts to provoke a showdown with Moscow, on the part of Obama and Merkel, are a dangerous bluff. Anyone who knows the first thing about Putin and the Russian military command knows that they will not be bluffed into submission.
Adding to the immediacy of the war danger, Victoria Nuland’s Poroshenko government in Kiev just passed a law this week, ending all military cooperation with Russia. Under that law, the Russian military will no longer be allowed to transit Ukrainian territory to reach the Transdniester region of Moldova, where Russian troops are stationed, and are otherwise cut off from supplies and personnel rotations. The Ukraine move mirrors the actions by the Georgian government in 2008, which led to the brief Russia-Georgia War. Any such “hot war” flare up under the present circumstances of the Obama-Merkel provocations against Moscow could easily get out of control.
President Obama has already committed a laundry-list of impeachable crimes. They have been most recently catalogued in the June issue of Harper’s magazine, under the headline “What Went Wrong?” Professor David Bromwich, the author of the analysis, details Obama’s perpetuation of all of the unconstitutional unitary executive powers, grabbed by George W. Bush and Dick Cheney following the Saudi-engineered Sept. 11, 2001 attacks. The case is open and shut for President Obama’s immediate removal from office–and the looming threat of thermonuclear provocation against Russia, which is sure to lead to war, is sufficient grounds to act immediately.
In the case of Angela Merkel, she, too, is under immense public attack from sane war-avoidance forces, including two former German Chancellors, Helmut Schmidt and Gerhard Schroeder, along with the current German Foreign Minister Steinmeier, and other top SPD party officials. Merkel’s refusal to invite Russian President Putin to the just-concluded G-7 summit was not only a profound blunder, given the climate of provocations. It set the stage for President Obama’s childish performance.
Merkel is now also facing action before the German Constitutional Court for her efforts to cover up the NSA spying scandal. She, too, is on the edge of being brought down, and none too soon.
