A Day That Will Live in Infamy

November 7th, 2012

The following are remarks made by Lyndon LaRouche on the morning following the announcement of the results of the 2012 presidential elections:

A truly great President, on Dec. 7th of 1941, declared that that day was a “day in infamy.” And the same thing can be said of Nov. 7th, now.

What obviously happened to cause this result was predetermined in Florida, in the so-called last debate which occurred. And at that point, in fact, the Republican candidate capitulated, as I was not surprised to find he did, as yesterday. This is truly a “day of infamy.” Now, when you deal with a day of infamy, as Roosevelt dealt with that on Dec. 7th, 1941, an American who is a leader of any sort, has to respond in a certain way. And since we don’t have a credible Presidential candidate in sight, including the one we’ve been encumbered again by now, I have to say something about this.

What happened? The Republican candidate capitulated to Wall Street. That is the Republican Party is strongly represented in Wall Street, and where he could have easily won the Presidency, on points, by simply going at the question of the crime committed by the incumbent President, in failing to do that, under pressure from Wall Street representatives or voices, the thing was lost. It was touch-and-go from that point on, and eventually, it was lost. It was lost because of fraud by the Obama crowd and so forth, at that point it became a lost cause, and obviously, the Republicans just capitulated on what was given to them. Now, that’s what we’re faced with.

What are the consequences of this selection of re-election of this President? Well, first of all, it means that you’re going to have the most terrible conditions the American people have had in the past centuries, are suddenly going to hit. What’s going to hit is a combination of austerity and hyperinflation! What’s going to happen is the death rate in the United States among poorer people and others, will increase! Nothing good, as such, will come out of this election result. Therefore, we have to cope with the reality.

Now, what’s the reality? The reality is the likelihood of thermonuclear war, which would mean virtual human extinction, will probably occur, unless we can prevent it by other means. But that’s where we stand. We’re headed for war, the Obama Administration is a war administration, and if it can’t be blocked in some way, it will happen! And if it is a war, if it’s a war on the nations now, it will be a thermonuclear war, from which very few people are likely to survive, and maybe the whole civilization won’t survive.

So, the question is, what are we going to do, in terms of uncertainty? What we always have done, as George Washington did in crossing the Delaware, we always do the kinds of things that are needed to save civilization, and to save this nation in particular. And we will do it under law. And it will be done under law, and in due course, this President will be out of office. It may be sooner, it may be somewhat later, but he’s unfit to serve, morally, factually, and he will not be in office for long! Hopefully, some of the people of the United States will survive.

I’ll have more to say on this in the coming days. But this is the first occasion, in which we’ve had an official expression of our organization, since the announcement of the election, and therefore, it was my duty to state this point, this morning, on this occasion, to settle it at once.
